For my last semester, I had the privilege to participate in an outreach program with Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School. My group had the opportunity to divide and present to normal high school adolescents and Down syndrome students.
As part of the first group that went, I was able to present to high school students with down syndrome. We educated these students about tooth decay, simple brushing techniques, and nutritional guidance. The information was delivered through an oral presentation, interactive video, and live demonstration with typodonts. The students were able to engage with us by showing what they have learned on the typodonts.
Overall, it was a unique humbling experience that has taught me a better understanding on how to present material and interact with special need patients.
