Listed below are the clinical skill sets that I have practiced over the course of NYCCT’s Dental Hygiene Program:
- Performing oral prophylaxis by scaling and root planing with hand and ultrasonic instruments for patient oral bacterial reduction
- Extraoral and Intraoral examinations to provide proficient oral cancers screenings
- Taking vital signs and recording dental charting and periodontal screenings for proper patient diagnostic documentation
- Nutritional counseling for caries preventative guidance
- Administering local anesthesia for patient pain management
- Placing pit and fissure sealants via rubber dam placement and cotton roll isolation techniques for pediatric and adult patients for caries preventative measures
- Placing Arestin and post placement evaluation as part of periodontal treatment in patients
- Supra-gingival and Sub-gingival air polishing to remove unwanted extrinsic stains
- Identifying caries risk level in patients for patient caries prevention
- Exposing dental radiographs: Panoramic, Full mouth series, Bitewings, and Periapical radiographs to detect tooth decay and other oral abnormalities
- Applying fluoride treatment (Varnish and Gel) as protective measures in preventing tooth decay
- Placing and removing periodontal dressings for patients who’ve had periodontal gum graphs
- Taking and pouring alginate impressions to make models for patient dental appliances
