About this Course

This course will introduce you to the application of measures and strategies planning approaches in health care management. Throughout the semester, you will learn methods used in developing and applying health indicators in evaluating healthcare systems and services as well as hands on experience on management software platform used for construction of surveys related to healthcare outcomes and a statistical software platform used for analyzing quantitative data.

You will learn by attending lectures, writing assignments, completing computer lab exercises, and completing online examinations. For computer lab exercises, each student is required to access IBM SPSS remotely using CUNY virtual Desktop (VDI) and City Tech VDI software. Students can also use general lab G600 and V217 computers to access SPSS for completing lab exercises. For remote computer access, students need to download and open the connection file and log in with your City Tech username and password. Carefully review the course syllabus that is posted on Brightspace for more information about the class.

When to Use Open Lab and Brightspace

1. Asynchronous (self-directed) learning through Brightspace and Open Lab

The format of this course includes asynchronous activities, whereby students engage in self-directed learning each week. You will find these activities under this website’s “Readings and Assignments” tab. Concepts covered through asynchronous activities will be included in written assignments and the online exams. Therefore, it is important that you devote adequate time to learning about these areas. Pre-recorded lectures will be distributed on Blackboard. You are required to watch the lecture and participate in the weekly asynchronous activities in your own time but by the deadline. Your attendance will be recorded after you complete the weekly module within the deadline.

2. Synchronous (real-time) lectures through CUNY Zoom (only applicable for students enrolled in Online Mix Section)

CUNY Zoom will be used to participate in 150 minutes of synchronous (real-time) lectures from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Please refer to your syllabus for the live lecture dates. You will find the PowerPoints for each lecture posted on Brightspace, which is also used to submit all assignments including computer lab exercises, papers, and exams.
