Learning Self Analysis

As my journey through the BSN program  comes to an end, I have learned many things that have shaped my nursing practice.  Being able to make an assessment is a key component in being a nurse.  Taking the Physical Assessment course has taught me how to make an even better assessment that could potentially help find any existing complications the patient may exhibit.  The Nursing Research course has taught me how research has shaped the  nursing profession and how it will shape it in the future.  It has also shown me that I can conduct my own research someday, which was something I didn’t think I could have done.  The Community and Urban Health course has taught me the impact that nurses make in the community.  I have learned about the many unique ways that the nurse can help in the community.  I have been fortunate to participate in lobbying for important issues such as patient-staff ratio at the New York State Nurses Association. I got a first hand look at how nurses can make change at a national level.  I have also been fortunate to participate in an on going research that mentors children who have an incarcerated parent.  Finally, the Professional Nursing course has shed light on issues in nursing that I already knew existed.  I have gained more knowledge on these issues and understand why some of them exist.   My knowledge on nursing has expanded tremendously and I know that there is plenty more knowledge that I will obtain as I gain more experience.
