Let me talk with you all about what I have learned at New York City College of Technology. In my first semester back in the BSN nursing program, I gained a little more knowledge about physical assessment skills even though my expectations for this course were higher. The following semester was even more moving; in Leadership class I became more acquainted with the different characteristics of leadership in nursing. By the end of the semester I was able to utilize the knowledge gained from this course in my work environment to assist me in problem solving and decision making. Geriatrics increases additional knowledge of taking care of the elderly population, I was better able to analyze the effectiveness of community resources in assisting older adults and their families to retain personal goals, maximize function, maintain independence, and live in the least restrictive environment. In addition, identify the benefits of interdisciplinary teams in care of older adults. Nursing Research course was motivating and has given me the opportunity to identify the role of the nurse in research as well as the collaborative role of the nurse researcher in disseminating nursing research findings.

Urban along with Community course has given me the opportunity to examine therapeutic nursing interventions focused on clients with current urban health care needs and collaborate with community health care organizations in assisting the client with current health care issues to achieve identified goals. This same semester I became more familiar with roles of the nurse case manager when compared to that of a social worker. This final semester in Nursing Professionals, by the end of the semester I hope to be able to advocate within the professional nursing organizations in order to effect change related to professional nursing practice. I am thankful for all my clinical and lecture professors for sharing their knowledge with me and to be a part of this NYCCT Baccalaureate Nursing Program
