THE AIGA TRIP

AIGA

My trip at Aiga was pretty interesting. Aiga was made in 1914 and started with around 40 people who were very wealthy. Now the organization has thousands of people in different countries that are cooperating with each other to make art have a bigger impact in society. The instructor showed us how art developed and evolved from brown covered documents to colorful and creative pieces of work. It felt great being there when we learned about the annual meetings they have with big artists and developers. The Aiga tries to make their art more complex by getting it into politics and street ads.  One of the things that I liked about the trip was that they showed one of Shepard Fairey’s work on their wall. Shepard Fairey’s art pieces inspired me ever since I saw the movie “Exit Through the Gift Shop” which is a documentary about Banksy and other street artists. He showed how you can use street art for big businesses and politics. We also learned about Milton Glaser, the person who made the I Love New York Logo.
