ARESTIN* PLACEMENT

ARESTIN* is a powder that contains the antibiotic minocycline Hydrochloride, or minocycline HCl, embedded in a polymer base that is easily absorbed by the body. ARESTIN* microspheres release minocycline over time, and are completely reabsorbed into the body.

When ARESTIN* is inserted; it immediately adheres to the periodontal pocket. This allows a controlled, sustained release of minoclycline. Treatment with ARESTIN* helps kill the bacteria that underlie periodontal disease, to create a healthier environment. This technology allows extended release of the antibiotic, so that it works to kill the bacteria that cause periodontal disease for up to 21 days.

ARESTIN* should not be used in any patient who has a known sensitivity to minoclycline or tetracycline. The use of drugs of the tetracycline class during tooth development may cause permanent discoloration of the teeth, and therefore should not be used on children or in pregnant or nursing women. Hypersensitivity reactions that included, but were not limited to anaphylaxes, angioneurotic edema, urticaria, rash, swelling of the face and pruritus have been reported with the use of ARESTIN*. In clinical trials, the most frequently reported nondental treatment-emergent adverse events were headache, infection, flu, syndrome and pain.
