Italy is one of the most populated countries in Europe. Italy has a population of about 59 million, with about 28.9 million males and 30.1 females (Statista Research Department, 2024). The most populated cities in Italy are urban cities such as Rome, Milan, and Naples (Statistic Times, 2024). Since Italy reached its peak population in 2017, the country has started a population decline expected to decrease to 40 million by 2100 (World Population Review, 2024). The country’s declining population is mainly due to low birth rates and an aging population. Native Italians are leaving the country searching for jobs, while many immigrants (from Romania, Morocco, Albania, and Africa) are moving to Italy (World Population Review, 2024). Still, the majority of the population consists of Native Italians, and the main religion practiced is Roman Catholicism.
