Student support content
- Modules designed to support STEM students as they apply mathematical ideas in non-mathematics courses.
- The module on logic gates features interactive activities from circuitverse.com and embedded problems built using H5P technology, as well as WeBWorK assessment problems.
- The module on vectors features a custom game (DOT’s Snack Quest in Vector Land) which draws on students’ intuitive knowledge of space and movement to develop skills around vectors, an important mathematical concept in many physics applications.
Faculty development content
- Modules (including this one) for faculty, students, and the general public introducing the project, our goals and our activities.
Technology tools
The OpenLab team at City Tech is developing a number of custom tools to support the project. Our project is based on open-source platforms, so the tools and materials we create can be used by faculty and students across institutions and around the world.
- OpenLab Module Plugin. This plugin enables the use of modules on the OpenLab and other WordPress-based platforms. Features include automatic module navigation elements and completion verification for H5P and WeBWorK activities.
- WeBWorK embedding. WeBWorK is an open-source online homework system for math and science courses. Students usually work within a WeBWorK class environment, but this standalone plugin allows embedding of individual WeBWorK problems on the OpenLab and other WordPress-based platforms.
- Game embedding. This feature allows embedding of the DOT game into our physics modules.
