Expressive Type and Lettering

Part 1: Expressive Typography: Students must convey the meaning of 4 words (selected from a provided list) with a Sans Serif typeface and using principles of design such as scale, posture, placement, repetition, or omission. Students can only alter the proportion of the ascenders and descenders of the original letterforms and can dissect, omit and repeat letters or parts of the letterforms if necessary.

Part 2: Lettering: Students select their favorite pastime or food and represent the word or phrase without using a typeface. They are encouraged to explore techniques such as digital illustrations, drawing, construction, collage, photograph, etc.
