The Stefan Bucher cover for winter really caught my eye because of the balanced composition, it’s especially balanced because of how chaotic it is in such a confined space. The contrast of that really brings out the strengths of the piece which is the chaotic nature and how it all connects to UCLA extension being an Art School.
Armin Hoffmann’s piece is also very appealing to me because of how the background is most likely shot on film and the film grain is nice contrast to Hoffmann using vectors over the landscape shot. The background shot seems to utilize the rule of thirds by using the clouds and sunlight as a subject which also contributes to it’s balance. The appeal for me is how simple yet effective it is.
