The School of Professional Studies does just what its name implies – It prepares students for professional careers. The eleven departments housed in the school provide instruction at the associate and baccalaureate levels, leading to degrees in the areas of healthcare, business, hospitality, paralegal studies, human services, and career and technology teacher education. The approximately 6,000 students in these majors benefit from cutting-edge technology and a faculty who know what is needed to build a career — both today and tomorrow.

Business and Technology of Fashion

Fashion Marketing
The Business and Technology of Fashion AS program is a 2-year degree designed for the student interested in the dynamics of fashion, both as a business and as an expression of contemporary culture.

Career & Technology Teacher Education

These two Bachelor of Science programs prepare students for positions as career/technical and technology teachers. Students can get provisional certification en route to teach in New York public middle and high schools. Students in the career teacher program can earn up to 30 credits based on previous occupational skills. This is a high-demand field that offers an extremely satisfying career.

Dental Hygiene

A dental hygienist is a licensed member of the dental health team who provides educational, clinical and therapeutic services to the public according to the regulations of individual state Dental Hygiene Practice Acts. Patient care provided by the dental hygienist includes collection and assessment of pertinent data, planning, and implementation of care and evaluation of the results of treatment.

Hospitality Management

The Hospitality Management program opens the door for students to pursue a promising career path across a wide range of industry sectors including the substantial tourism industry in New York. Students compete in and win national professional culinary and pastry competitions.

The AAS degree program provides students with a solid foundation in theory and current practices of the hospitality industry and a core of liberal arts and science courses that will prepare them for flexible career development.

The BTech degree in Hospitality Management is an internationally accredited program of the Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration (ACPHA).

Human Services

A human services grad does community organization and outreach, counseling, advocacy, and case management with populations in need. Graduates work in not-for-profit agencies and hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, schools, courts, community-based, mental, public health centers and the human resources field. Law & Paralegal Studies

We offer the first baccalaureate program in paralegal studies at any public college in New York State, to meet the ever-increasing need for a highly trained workforce to support law firms and the legal system. Many grads continue to law school. The bachelor’s degree program is the only one in New York City with ABA accreditation.

Nursing

Nurses have never been more in demand than they are today, and that need is expected to increase through the foreseeable future. At the associate degree level, this program prepares students to become RNs and has first-time passing rates on the national exams considerably above the New York State average (87.1% in 2014). The bachelor’s degree program offers training in community healthcare and opens the door to management positions.

Restorative Dentistry / Dental Lab Tech
