Introduction

Welcome to Carmen Huang’s e-Portfolio. Here you can find links to some of the clinical cases I have encountered during my time at NYCCT Dental Hygiene, as well as my resume that emphasizes my skills, experiences, academics, and achievements.

Teeth have always been an interest of mine as it is a part of the oral cavity, face, head, and body. We use it when we smile, communicate, and most importantly eat. Joining the dental hygiene program at NYCCT has allowed me to develop a further interest in the importance of connecting oral healthcare to systemic health.

Maintaining dental hygiene is essential not just for oral health but for overall well-being. It stands as a fundamental aspect of preventive healthcare, given that proper oral care can alleviate various dental issues such as cavities, gum disease, and tooth decay. Without teeth, proper nutritional intake can be greatly affected. Studies have indicated that neglecting dental hygiene can correlate with systemic health problems like cardiovascular disease and diabetes. By sticking to routines like regular brushing, flossing, and dental check-ups, individuals not only maintain the health of their teeth and gums but also ensure fresh breath and self-assurance.

As a prospective dental hygienist, I aim to educate my patients about proper oral homecare, provide professional treatments, and prevent future decay. Prioritizing dental hygiene improves one’s appearance and acts as a shield against potentially severe health complications, emphasizing its pivotal role in systemic health.
