Activity: Proportion

Workshop: grids, proportion, and hierarchy

Use proportion to position your type

      1.

1. Align type to the 5 column grid

Create 2 levels of hierarchy

2. Create a new alignment and type to the grid

Create 3 levels of hierarchy

3. Create your own grid (just make sure that your work will not be centered)

Align type to the grid

Create 3 levels of hierarchy

Remember:

Use alignment
emphasize the grid: we should have a sense of the grid, even when it is not showing

Use hierarchy
create a composition based on each proportion system
•  create at least 3 levels of hierarchy
•  where do you place hierarchy to emphasize the grid?

Make sure your text is not centered
check that you do not have the same space above and below

Mass your white space
make sure you have a large group of white space
