Course Syllabus: The Modern World Since 1900

Course Description: The course offers a chronological and thematic introduction to the history of Western interactions with the wider world from the late 1800s to the present. Emphasis is placed on key events, including the rise of nationalism in Europe and the race for empire in the late 19th century, the First World War, the interwar years, the Second World War, the Cold War, the post-Cold War era, and the effects of globalization.

Throughout the course, students will develop a methodology for transforming ideas into academic papers. As a precursor to this goal, material will be consciously structured to facilitate a productive process of writing and editing academic papers. The focus is on ensuring that students’ ideas receive the best possible presentation through collaborative efforts.
