In my short time writing essays, I have come to the conclusion that the genres that I handle best when writing are narrative, expressive, and descriptive. The reason why I think I have mastered these genres correctly is that they are the ones I have been writing for the longest and they have been relatively good, so my teaching about them has led me to feel very comfortable at the time of writing. I think the rhetorical point that these genres have in common is that they help me to bring out personal points of view and defend them in a certain way, this is also because they fit with my way of being, so it is easier to get to the point and offer a clear and detailed explanation, for example, I think that for my second essay, I will use the descriptive genre, because I want to remain neutral but provide all the information of both conflicts in the same way. Although, I am also thinking of using the informative narrative to be able to give a personal opinion and defend one of the points of the essay that will be discussed. These genres have great potential for this essay since the topic requires concise and specific data to be able to prove different theses.
Hi. Nice consideration of genre. Descriptive is good for Unit 2 but we tend to think of it more for narrative writing. But the idea of including detail is absolutely on point. Informative essays are more objective than personal when you’re talking about things like summaries and the rhetorical analysis we’ll be doing starting today. Opinions tend to fall into the argumentation category, but honestly, they’re all pretty fluid.
In terms of genres for doing research, you should think in terms of things like videos vs. podcasts, blog posts vs. journal or news organization articles. That kind of thing.
