I don’t necessarily have many specific incidents that influenced or changed how I think about language. I learned and got used to the language pretty early on in my life between kindergarten and elementary school, so I don’t recall many events that happened during that period of my life that changed my view on the language other than learning how people from different states have their own way of speaking.
I remember having to adapt to the Texan way of speaking and learning phrases that were commonly used there. It was even hard understanding some people because of the the way some people spoke. Then when I moved from Texas back to Brooklyn, I had to adapt to how New Yorkers speak, and had to adapt to their version of speaking. Learning different words and phrases that are commonly used here by the people. Even having to ask what some words meant and then those words and phrases became a part of my vocabulary.
