Introduction

Hi, this is Beverly Tennant. I graduated from New York City College of technology, in 2009 with an AAS degreee. I  am currently pursing my BSN in nursing and expect to graduate in December, 2013. I have worked as a behavorial health nurse for the past three 1/2 years. I found psychiatric nursing to be a very rewarding and fulfilling field to practice. I am currently enrolled in Professional Nursing and Urban Health.

My personal statement or belief/philosophy
I see nursing as an art, where the main functions are to provide healing, nurturing, love, and care for those who are sick. I seek to maintain my skills and competency through a continuous commitment to professional development and continued education, in order to provide the best evidence based care to my patients. My primary duties as a registered nurse are to provide competent, empathic, compassionate, and holistic care to my patient’s to the best of my ability. I promise to respect the dignity and individuality of all in my care and to support and honor their choices and preferences whenever possible. As a Psychiatric nurse I will promote the physical, emotional and personal well-being of all my patients, including their protection from abuse, neglect, and reduce their risk from harm. I will advocate for my patient’s to get the services and support that they need to help them live healthier and productive lives. According to Martin Luther King, the ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenges and controversy ,” and I stand strong on the premise to promote justice, fairness , equality, and respect to all that I serve. One of my main goals as a nurse is to educate and empower my patient’s through knowledge to help them make inform decisions and accept full responsibility for their healthcare needs. I vow to uphold the ethical codes of conduct of the American Nurses Association and I will do all in my power to elevate the standard of my profession and with loyalty I will devote myself to the welfare of those committed to my care.
