My interest in the Dental field started when I had ortho treatment in 2013 – 2017. During that time, I was more aware of my oral hygiene because EVERYTHING was accumulating in those brackets. I found myself always checking and double checking my teeth to make sure they looked clean after every meal. However, I only started to diligently floss when a hygienist pointed out how red and inflamed my gums appeared. She told me the consequences with poor oral hygiene, such as premature tooth loss, which was an eye-widening moment for me as a kid.

Prior joining the program, I worked as a dental assistant and receptionist in a general practice to experience what it was like a Dental professional and to gain knowledge about the different roles that keeps the office running smoothly as a whole. Working there only made my interest and love for the field grow more. I thought to myself that this is definitely something I can see myself doing for the rest of my life.

Now I get to see my own patients and get to educate them about oral hygiene. Something I always mention to my patients is, ‘it’s important to keep your teeth clean, but just as important to have healthy gums.’  It’s nice to know when the patients’ perspective and behavior change when learning something new about their oral health. A HUGE bonus that brings me satisfaction is seeing the before and after pictures!
