According to radiomuseum.org, the SONY logo was first used in 1955. On logoorange.com, it is shown that Sony Corporation created the first logo however Designer Yasuo Kuroki changed it in 1957. Logoorange.com goes on to say that a design team was later put in charge of the design. After many small modifications the design team chose a logo in 1973 where it has remained the same. Wikipedia states, “The name “Sony” was chosen for the brand as a mix of two words. One was the Latin word “Sonus”, which is the root of sonic and sound, and the other was “Sonny”, a familiar term used in 1950s America to call a boy. The first Sony-branded product, the TR-55 transistor radio, appeared in 1955 but the company name did not change to Sony until January 1958.”
On namethatfont.net, it is shown that the SONY logo uses “Clarendon Bold Epanded” font. The logo is usually black letters against white however it has been seen with white letters against black many times. Compared to the original 1955 logo, the modern one is much more bold and easier to understand. It is used across all of their trademarks with size usually being the only variation.
