I am the recipient of an academic scholarship through the Jewish Foundation for the Education of Women (JFEW). This scholarship required that I complete a professional summer internship between my first and second years of the clinical dental hygiene program.
During the summer of 2014 I located, contacted, and interviewed for an internship at the Community Health Center of Richmond in Richmond County, Staten Island. I was hired and worked a compensated two months as a Dental Hygienist under Dr. Dandline Alexandre, providing oral hygiene services and patient education to the Staten Island community.
Under the soft supervision of the on-site dentist or hygienist I exposed radiographs, initiated dental exams and assessments, provided oral hygiene education, and completed full mouth periodontal scaling and debridement on adult and pediatric patients.
