Hip hop and heraldry?

The art of Raashad Newsome presents an interesting was of picturing the motifs taken from medieval heraldry and incorporating in it today’s view of wealth in hip hop culture. To be honest do not really like his style. It looks really tacky. Especially the frames of arts colored with car paint. I understand he wants to convey his hip hop ideas but this seems to be too much. However the idea of mixing the video with music and art history is brilliant. That is very creative and shows higher level of understanding culture, people, media and art. I like the concept of heraldry, it is very interesting and worth focusing on. But when he uses it in his arts, it looks odd and artificial. I think it takes away from his art a great deal.

I agree with Koralina I really don’t like the Raashad Newsome’s artwork. It is too tacky! He takes what would be considered wealth in the modern day and then, he tries to incorporates it to something that looks medeval. He definitely does a horrible job at it, but his frames are pretty cool though. I a lot of art I seen don’t pay too much attention to the frame, but again there are too much dollar signs and bling in his frames.

I agree with you I don’t like the style of work that he is doing. People pay more attention to the frame more than the artwork itself. When I go look at artworks I don’t look at the frames because I pay more focus on the work itself not the frames of the work. The artworks look so plain and simple. Some of the artwork had like pictures of car and other thing on it and put it with a nice frame. Like one of his artwork with nice jewelry it like your showing off that you have a lot of money.

I also agree with everyone else. The style of the work that Raashad Newsome’s is a bit to much. When I first saw a piece of work he did, the first thing I looked at were the frame rather than the artwork itself. Its looks a bit played out, like its to plain and it doesn’t really draw out the story and whatnot. Although there plain and stuff most of his artwork did have a meaning or comparisons
