View of "Impossible" Caravaggio exhibit at Loyola University in Chicago

In Italy, there is a trend to launch ‘Impossible Exhibitions” for renowned artists, such as Raphael, Leonard, and Caravaggio.  In these exhibitions, all the works of art produced by one artist are assembled together in a museum setting.  Unfortunately, it is impossible to pull together all the works of art that are scattered in various public and private collections across many nations.  The only way to display an “Impossible Exhibition” is by projecting high-resolution reproductions of works of art.  For the last several years, Caravaggio: an impossible exhibition has traveled to various venues, including Loyola University in Chicago.  Explore images of the Caravaggio show in the link below.  Would you go to a museum to see digital reproductions of famous works of art?  Do you think it is important to see “real” works of art, or are reproductions just as effective?

I definitely wouldn’t go to a museum to see digital reproductions of famous works of art. To me that’s pointless. Art has a very important value. With art you have to take your time, put a lot of effect into in and prove whatever points you trying to get across. Most famous paintings have taking years to accomplish and to put it up digitally degrades the artist and paint. When I look at art I see the value is has. The lines, the paint, and the story behind it is real right in front of you and to digitalize it would disappoints me because there’s no value in it.

I agree with Jessri. It is true that famous paintings take a lot of time and carry history with them. That makes the process of viewing arts more full and interesting. I like it when you say that with art you have to take time to trully understand it. Because what we see is what we perceive as true. However I value the post of other classmates that would like to see the digital arts of paintings, in case they can not see the real art works. That also makes sense, however museums are pretty affordable, especially for students:)

Caravaggio’s Impossible Exhibitions was quite impressive, obviously it wasn’t original. In my opinion, this display somewhat disrespect Caravaggio’s artwork because art suppose to be original not portrayed on digital screens. It won’t be appealing to view something of such low caliber because these artworks were downgraded and I don’t see any point in them.

I think is was different to put his painting in digital form. I never have gone a this type of museum so if very unique for me. When I first saw this I didn’t read understand but then i started looking at the website you gave us and I saw all the picture. Digital painting is a good idea because the painting wont get mess up during the year.
