What is Art?

I believe that everyone should decide for themselves what art is. What is considered art for one person is not necessarily art for someone else. Just like John Baldessari says, “ I really just don’t think imagery should be owned… it’s like owning words. How could you own words?” I feel that the idea of “art” is just that, an idea. Ideas, like words, cannot be owned.

  1. I also believe that art can be recycled. I mean why not? Ordinary, everyday objects can be used for any number of things that can be seen as art. All it takes is for someone to have an idea. With an idea, some imagination, and a bit of creativity you can make something that can reach people, even if they don’t speak the same language as you do.
While on the web I came across an example of someone taking these everyday objects, in this case stainless steel kitchen utensils, into a large metal skull. (http://www.infobarrel.com/media/image/9717.jpg). It amazed me how someone can just take these ordinary objects and completely give a new outlook on them by forming them into an image. And it can be more than just taking objects to reform & reshape into something else; it can be reusing a photo or a design but adding a or some changes into it to show a piece of yourself to others. (in music it’s done all the time with beats or lyrics being recycled but the artist adds something to convey their story, their feelings or their creativity into the piece).

I believe that art is a form of expression. thouggh many thing to the public may not seem like art, to my if a picyure or sculpture is eye catching, i think its art. art comes in many different shapes and forms such as, tattoos, clothing, paintings, carvings, and sculptings. According to Aristotle, “The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance.” Art can be the smallest or largest object that allows ones imagination to run wild due to the things that one sees through any form of art.

I definitely agree with you when you say art is a form of expression. Art can truly be anything you imagine when it’s presented to the world. Paintings, Music, Dance, and more. To me there’s no one form of art because it has a wide range of expression through various different kinds of people. Aristotle’s quote is genius to me because when I dance, I dance with my inner emotions and show my heart through my craft.

Everybody have their own opinion what is art and what is not. Art can be showed in many different way for example collage, graffiti, even taking picture to me is art. I didn’t even there was such thing as recycle art till this class. To me recycle art is form of art. It took a brilliant mind to create stuff from recycle stuff that people thrown out. I came across this nice recycle art using car tires and tubes to make a standing dinosaur. (http://www.artparks.co.uk/artpark_sculpture.php?sculpture=1082&sculptor=chris_pilmore)
Art take a cleaver mind to think of idea to make a wonderful item to show to people.

I believe Art is a creative and imaginary ideas that are combined together . Art is defined in many ways like painting , drawing , making sculptures even making food is consider art! Art can be symbolic in unique ways depending on how they are design and created. Art sometimes can be display iridescent or monochrome colors depending on the artists’ mood. The mood of the artist is the main part of being an artist , depending on the mood , the artist would try to create something that would be similar to their feelings.

I believe art has to come from self expression or something inspiring. Anything and everything could be art to someone. I believe anyone can create art; but does that mean everyone should? No, because we all think differently. Something can be art even though it is obscene and offensive, but yet there it is. If a vast majority of people like something then that art is welcomed and shared by others who might appreciate it. Then a vast majority of people who dislike an artist’s work won’t really care if that artist and art goes away. The subject of art is vast and deep. Something can be considered “good” art because it has gotten a lot of exposure, people admire the work of art and they admire the artist’s talent. Talent has a lot to do with art and i believe “true” art takes talent pain and suffering.
