What is an “achiever personae”?

An ā€œachiever personaeā€ is a characteristic of a person who always strive to excel and progress in their professional career. This person will follow the ā€œachiever patternā€, which will be visible through their fast career growth. To be a professional achiever one must be capable to rapidly learn, apply and execute a given task with minimum direction and maximum resource utilization. An achiever will play a leading role in the toughest projects and play a part in critical decisions. Competence, consistency, and great communications skills are essential part of the ā€œachiever personaeā€.

My professional career in telecommunication field started eight years ago when I was first hired as customer service representative in Time Warner Cable. Since then, I have moved to Cablevision and switched to field service technician position. To further progress in my career, I went back to school and completed my first Associates degree in Telecommunication Engineering Technology (TCET). Currently Iā€™m on my path to finish the BA in TCET, and hopefully will graduate this fall of 2015. In addition, I have joined the Electronic Technician Association (ETA), and studying for certifications in my field.

Once my degree is complete, Iā€™m planning to apply for higher position within my company, or where ever the opportunity will take me. My goal is to become an advance technician and specialize in a particular technology field. I want to be known for my expertise and workmanship, where other employees will approach me to participate in their projects.

What is Performance Based Hiring?

Performance based hiring is a different approach for hiring best available contenders; a career oriented person, who will be evaluated based on their achievements rather than skill set. To be properly implemented the hiring personnel needs to combine a talent strategy and performance based hiring process. During the interview the candidate must be presented with job goals to be achieved, and asked about their major accomplishments in their previous positions. In addition, the candidate must be able to demonstrate their strengths will help to accomplish those goals. The most important part of performance base hiring, is to persuade the candidates they are getting a career opportunity rather than lateral move.

In order to transition to performance based method, I have to start identifying my professional achievements. In my company there are many different positions available. Iā€™m currently at the lowest ranked position of field service technician, working with residential customers only. I have to start seeking out different openings in business or outside plant department. By moving through the different ranks, I will be able to learn all the parts of the cablevision network and how it operates. This experience will allow me to work on major company project. One example of current company projects is the public Wi-Fi hotspot installation. I have to start requesting to participate in those types of ventures and give my best effort to get a leading role in the development of those projects.
