For my furniture design e-portfolio I chose to present my final project, which is a rocking chair that does not use standard rockers. I started with a question of how to design a rocking chair with unconventional rockers, next I researched the problem online and in furniture stores. I had plenty of ideas and sketches but I decided to move forward with a two person rocking chair, that had an optional small rocking bed underneath two back to back connecting seats. The chair is solely made out of 2″ by 2″ pieces of laminated ash wood. Each piece is laminated using wood glue and bent into the sh  ape needed for each part of the chair. The reason why I chose this chair as my final design is because of the fact that it does not only sit one person but it could accommodate three people, two sitting adults and one laying child. I feel that this is my best project because I am proud of my final outcome. I feel my final design could actually be made into a reality and be marketable. I also liked researching and designing a new rocking chair because my wife recently gave birth to our son almost one year ago and we could not find a nice, modern, accommodating rocking chair, so it was fun to rethink this timeless piece of furniture.
