• • Week 12 Assignments

    • Each week, I will ask you to do four things:
    • 1/  Post an entry in your Learning Journal.  Entries in your Learning Journal (LJ) will most often be focused on Free Writing or Structured Free Writing, which is Free Writing in response to a specific topic, prompt, or question.  I will give you a weekly LJ assignment.  Please post entries in your LJ HERE.  This is a private journal that only you and your instructor can access.
    • 2/ Complete one or more Group Assignments (GA), which will require that you contribute either a BLOG POST and/or to our course Discussion Board.  These posts and discussions will be read by our entire class.
    • 3/ Complete one to two Reading and Writing Assignments (RWA), which, unless otherwise specified, you will submit as a separate entry/entries in your Learning Journal HERE.
    • 4/ Check in at least THREE separate times a week and respond at least ONCE to contributions by other student blog posts on the Home page of our course Web site AND to forums on the course Discussion Board

     

    • WEEK 12 ASSIGNMENTS:  DUE DATE:  Wednesday, November 21  at 5PM.

    During Week 12, we are going to do some reading and some work on summary writing.  PLEASE NOTE:  WEEK 13 ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE POSTED NOV. 26, WHICH IS THE MONDAY AFTER THANKSGIVING.  IF POSSIBLE, I WOULD LIKE YOU ALL TO TAKE A BREAK OVER THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND, so please try to finish up Week 12 assignments before the holiday.

    • Please spend 5 to 7 minutes free writing about how technology has and has not changed your life.  Be creative:  I’m interested in knowing what you can imagine technology doing better that it has not yet done, as well as in things that you cannot imagine doing without the technology that currently exists.

• I was very impressed with several posts made regarding “Where We Are With College Writing.”  I’d like you to read through them and respond to AT LEAST two of them.

Reading and Writing Assignment 16:  One Paragraph Summary of James Paul Gee’s “What Video Games Have To Teach Us About Learning and Literacy”

First, please read this introduction to summary writing:

Second, please read the following article by Gee, making sure to take notes and to make a note of any words or phrases that you are unfamiliar with:

Third, please write a one paragraph summary of the reading, making sure that in the first sentence of your summary you not only mention the author’s full name and title of the article, but also clearly re-state in your own words the thesis of the article.

Fourth, please write a one paragraph response to the article.  Do you agree with Gee’s argument?  Why or why not?  Try to name at least three separate reasons why you agree or disagree with his argument.

Finally, please choose three quotes from the excerpt.  Write out each quote and respond to each, explaining in your response not only what Gee is saying in the quote, but what you have to say about his quote.
