- In the Jose Olivarez Article “Maybe I could save myself by writing” (2018), the author. The author grew up in struggling with his cultural Identity when growing up in the United States where he was rejected from a preschool that didn’t have anyone that spoke enough Spanish for him to help him attend classes, When lived in the USA he was considered “Too Spanish” but when he stated with his family in Mexico he wasn’t considered “Too Spanish” and corrected him.The kids on my grandparents’ block pronounced my name as my parents did, but when they asked me where I was from and I tried to tell them I was Mexican, they were quick to correct me. No, no, no. You’re from the United States. He felt out of place anywhere in and out of the country possible with his own family”
- I once had an educational experience of asking for help, in middle school and high school it started getting harder to ask my parents for help as my dad left school at 12 and my mom went to school in a different country and the system was different. When applying to colleges I wasn’t even really able to ask around for help with my parents or other family members me and my cousin are the 1st generation to go to college and I wasn’t really able to ask her as her major was different than mine but helped with little things like financial aid and the start of the application but when dealing with things like now with large assignment or long hour classes they wouldn’t understand because they think I have time all day to start help and run errands just because of my classes online.
- I would want to start in the pandemic when I first started doing my classes online and had a great passion for fashion. When i talked to my parents about what “real” jobs were. And had to restart my passions.Â

Getting to know meÂ
Hi, my name is Camille Castillo, I go by nicknames like Camilla or C.C, my pronouns are she/her. I work 2 jobs and enjoy it, I also take care of many animals and have a younger brother I take care of as well. I live in Westchester but live with my Grandmother in Queens. Whenever I work in Abercrombie and Kids store and am a babysitter to 2 kids 7 and 3, and often had to travel to Miami or they would stay here in order to help out their family. College can be stressful but I hope to have a better plan for this year.
This photo is significant to me because these are my close friends (especially the 2 on the left) but the blonde one with the all-black outfit is close to me like my best friend, it was one of the last photos where we were all carefree in highschool, just hanging out in the town center before I left and my friend in the red left for college to, before we started hanging out less due to college and my friend (in all black), has to now go to college and has a form of Achilles Tentitis and his doing much physical and expensive therapy to help as they need a rare doctor. We all still try to stay connected but it gets harder in college.
