Research Discussion

After researching about fake news, we learned that there are various ways to differentiate between legitimate and fraudulent news sources. For example, web addresses that end with “.co” or “.lo” are not real. This suspicious element is actually easy for any person to miss. In addition, we learned that web addresses with these endings are actually owned by a single person; one who does not value credibility or truth in their articles.

Another discovery was that stories with a controversial, bias, or satirical headline are usually fake. A real headline, on the other hand, is factual and not as controversial.

Lastly, we learned that it is important to check the date of a story. Sometimes the story is actually true and has a legitimate source behind it, but is old. This tactic is especially popular in social media and blogs.
