Find a and b if equation of tangent line to graph of function at is .
By working with the original function and its derivative, you can produce a system of 2 equations in the unknowns a and b, which you then solve.
the tangent line share both the slope and the point ( y value).
f ‘ (x)=4x^3+2 a x
f ‘ (1)=4+2a=2 (slope for line)
so a=-1
f(10)=a+b=5 (y value for line at x=1)
so b=6
