Carman Kong 9/14/13

My name is Carman Kong. I am from Brooklyn, New York. I have just recently transferred from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. I had no idea what I wanted to major in while I was at John Jay until I realized that I wanted to do hotel management. I felt like I was wasting my time at that school. And so I went on and tried to transfer to City Tech. I am lucky that I got accepted here at City Tech because if I did not get accepted, I would have still been stuck at John Jay not knowing where my future is headed to.
As a student, I have not always been a very hard working person. Even though at the beginning of the year, I’d tell myself that I must get good grades for this semester, I end up slacking. I am lazy, but I still try my very best at school. This year, I hope to find myself pushing to the limit to try and get good grades. It is not hard being a college student, 5 classes a week, 5 subjects to remember and homework to do every night. It’s difficult and challenging, but I have to make it through.
As for my academic experience, I pretty much don’t have any because back in high school, I was a really lazy person and I didn’t do any internship. But I did do some community service. I worked at a public library shelving books and I also worked at a daycare taking care of children. If there is an opportunity for me to get my academic experience better, I would take it. I do have a job at the moment working at a karaoke bar as a waitress/server. I don’t know whether or not if this job is an academic experience for me because I did learn many things. I learned to cope with customers and co workers and I also learned to give the best service possible for all customers that comes through that door. My academic goals are to get my grades up and try to find better experience that would help me lead to a brighter future later on. My career experience would also be the same as my academic goals, which is to try to find experience that has to do with hotels. And for my career goal, for now, I would like to find a job at a hotel.
As for my personal strengths, I am a good listener. I can listen to others and I will always try my best to comfort others. I am also a good organizer; I like to keep things neat and straight. When things get messy, I get frustrated. I do not have much personal strengths because I am not good in school, especially math; math is definitely one of my weaknesses. Overall, what really interests me is being able to find a job at a hotel and in hope to just work my way up.
