About the Organization

This is my first internship, which I obtained throughout Professor Nicolao’s contact. The name of the organization is Unity For Equality. It’s an non-profit organization founded in 2016 which has the mission is to support and include undeserved communities and immigrants in both civic engagement and economic opportunities.

The organization provide access to healthcare, education and information on immigration through a legal clinic, provide meals for unfortunates, develop young leadership and engage community members in their civic rights.

In this internship I am part of the marketing and communication department and my responsibilities in this sector is to develop creative graphic design requested by the director responsible.

Internship Overview

In this internship I did my work mostly remotely. We were asked at our first group meeting to download Microsoft Teams and used the tool to communicate and receive our tasks. The President of the organization met with us personally and thought us how to use the tool step-by-step. It was my first time working in an environment like this, so I got a little confused with the first couple of days and almost got terminated. Fortunately, Professor Nicolao contacted me and with easy access to communication, we solved the issue in no time.

At the internship, I would receive tasks and assignments every week and meet the deadline. After my first assignment, that was a mistake, which my director forgot to assign me with tasks for 2 weeks, I contacted him in order to see if there were anything I could do in the meantime and tasks were assigned to me.

In this past and the upcoming month I was assigned to do social media designs related to many topics, such as recycling, environment- plastic bottle, Black Friday and heartfelt meals.

The Workplace

In this internship I was working remotely every Mondays from 10-6 and sometimes Tuesdays from 2-6. Since I have an heavy schedule, I tried to work as much as possible with the small free time I had. Sometimes I would work late at nights after coming from my main job as a secretary.

My workplace is my home and my computer, which I take it with me to work in other places that I might go. Although I do not have an office or work in the person for the organization, I try to look for a place as comfortable as I can with little interruption and as less distraction as possible, so I can focus as much I can in the my projects.

Social Media Posts

National Recycle Day

In this project, I was tasked to design a social media post for the National Recycle Day. The main goal was to make people recycle or make them curious about the topic, so one day they might start recycling and help our planet.

In the post, I used different tones of greens to represent the nature and used a heart shaped recycle symbol, which has the saying “Join the cycle, recycle” with trash which can be recycled at the bottom. I used a simple and easy to remember slogan to make the viewer feel that if they recycle, they are doing part of a cycle, which can make the viewer feel that they might belong to a community.

Environment

In this project, the goal was to create a social media post for the environment. The main objective was to make people aware that using reusable bottles help with the plastic thrown out in the ocean, which also help the biodiversity living in there.

In the post, I used an image of a reusable bottle and wrote down the massage given to me by my director.

Black Friday

The main goal of this post is to celebrate Black Friday. The task was to make the social post as much exciting as possible. In other to do so, I used the concept of paint, which is both fun and exciting. I used black paint in the background and red color on the words “Black Friday” to represent the a big discount. In the corners different colors were used to make in seems more fun.

Heartfelt Meal

This month, I was tasked to make social media posts for a donation. It is a volunteer organization which the goal is to provide food for those unfortunates and homeless. In the first image, I used pictures of an unfortunate person receiving food from a volunteer team.

In the second picture, it was an AI image which I generated. In the image, have a homeless person with food in his hands and looking towards us. I gave two styles in this one, which is a poster with color and another only in gray.
