José Olivarez’s essay “Maybe I Could Save Myself by Writing ” is a story of survival and self-direction. The poet (who is featured in the poetry section of this site and who came to City Tech for the Literary Arts Festival in 2019) tells of his experience with writing and how he now uses writing to help others.
