This TedTalk by Sakinah Hofler discusses how writing about those times that are difficult, times when we didn’t act and make a change when we knew we should have can make us those who “bear witness” rather than just be passive observers. In writing memoir, we ābear witnessā to our own lives in important ways. Among Hoflerās many points, effective memoir: (1) carefully uses details; (2) shows a sequence of events; and, (3) analyzes the emotional impact of a particular life event. This three part framework is a beginning for writing memoir.
