The clearest examples of haikus I’ve found are this source: 10 Vivid Haikus to Leave You Breathless. While you may not be left “breathless,” the examples are from classic authors and show good us of the form. On this page are those from two traditional Japanese poets:
āThe Old Pondā by Matsuo BashÅ
An old silent pond
A frog jumps into the pondā
Splash! Silence again.
āA World of Dewā by Kobayashi Issa
A world of dew,
And within every dewdrop
A world of struggle.
And two contemporary poets:
Sonia Sanchez āHaiku [for you]ā
love between us is
speech and breath. loving you is
a long river running.
Ravi Shankar āLines on a Skullā
lifeās little, our heads
sad. Redeemed and wasting clay
this chance. Be of use.
