This course will introduce students to health promotion and disease prevention strategies that are a part of the US healthcare system. Students will gain an appreciation of common determinants of health and common risk factors. Through the application of health frameworks (such as BEINGS – Biology/Behavior, Environment, Immunology, Nutrition, Genetics, Public Health, and Social/Spiritual/Services), students will gain an understanding of health care interventions.
As students who are interested in becoming health care professionals, it is important that you have knowledge about health promotion and disease prevention. Ultimately, this knowledge will help patients improve their health and is even more critical now as the nation combats COVID-19.
When to Use Open Lab and Blackboard
This Open Lab site will be used to access the course’s (1) Schedule and (2) Readings and Assignments.
Blackboard will be used to submit all assignments including papers and exams. The Course Syllabus is also posted on Blackboard.
