About Jessica Hernandez

I want to be a free-lance artist. I strongly feel that this Graphic Design class will help me understand the principles of art and also help me become a professional artist. My goal is to learn as much as possible about graphic design and contribute it to my own art style and improve my skills. Paintings inspires me the most because it can be a challenge especially getting the right color, but to me that is what makes it fun and exciting.

Society of Illustrators

What stood out to me the most in the Society of Illustators was a work from Tron Nguyen for a book called “Miranda & Caliban” and her client was Tor Books. Tron is an award-winning illustrator and gallery artist. She was born in Vietnam and raised in the States. She creates visuals that can be used as a psycho-therapeutic support vehicle. Her paintings are created with a soft, delicate quality using colored pencil and acrylic on paper. This illustration in particular grabbed my attention because most illustrations that were surrounding Tron’s work were colorful with thick lines but compared to those, her work is very color muted, and has no outlines which creates a softer feel. Her work also intrigued me because of how detailed it was. One can see the details of each feather, the strands of hairs, highlights on the figure’s faces and values that create depth and form. One can see she really thought out her composition for this piece because the figures are placed diagonal keeping it consistent and aethetically pleasing to look at by making it easy for one’s eyes to follow throughout her work. It doesn’t seem like it was randomly placed.

I personally like this illustrator because I believe we have similar art styles in terms of using surrealism and using women as our main figure. I am also an acrylic paint user.
