    There is nothing innovative about “fake news,” which has emerged as the year’s most fashionable talking point. Last year, when Facebook came under fire for publicizing unsubstantiated information and “fake” newspaper articles, “fake news” gained popularity. The problem became even more pronounced during the 2016 United States Presidential election when questionable news stories about the two candidates circulated. As a result, Fake News has emerged as an effective propaganda weapon for both political parties. However, in today’s world, social sharing can be accomplished with a single click. Stories tend to escalate like bushfires to cause long-term harm (Rampersad, 10). The adage “what goes interactive stays online” is a true statement in this day and age. According to a study conducted by the Reuters Institute, the way people devour mainstream press has also shifted, which found that more than half of Irish consumers now get their headlines from social mainstream press web pages.
    The influence of fake news creators on the internet is significant. Thanks to the internet, every person has the freedom to post anything they want and as much as they want. Thanks to social media, everyone now has a platform to express themselves to a wide audience. It has also resulted in a new polarized mentality, in which everyone feels compelled to express their point of view on anything and everything (Grinberg, 375). Skeptics would point out that public relations are no strangers to fake news. From spin specialists to indoctrinators, public relations professionals have always battled against unfavorable perceptions with an overarching message off disingenuousness at their center. However, it is critical to distinguish between blatant propaganda and spinning to avoid confusion. In contrast to business spin or political embellishment, fake news is wholly and purposely made up. Fake news poses a challenge to public relations because it questions the accuracy and integrity of the media.

      We went over your op ed intro in class, and it looks strong. I recommend reviewing the sentence, “According to a study conducted by the Reuters Institute, the way people devour mainstream press has also shifted, which found that more than half of Irish consumers now get their headlines from social mainstream press web page,” which makes it seem like people are going to new’s webpages not social media for their news. Your op-ed seems to be about fake news on social media, so the above quote doesn’t seem relevant.

      Also, you can probably take out ” The adage “what goes interactive stays online” is a true statement in this day and age” because you have a relevant quote before that, and this one is less about fake news than online permanency.

      Finally, I would include some context to the sentence, “Skeptics would point out that public relations are no strangers to fake news.” Skeptics of what part of your argument? We need to understand what the counterargument is countering before you address it. Great work.

    The crime in NYC is the worst it’s ever been in history. About 3 years ago, NYC was announced as the safest big city in America. With the current officials in charge, the city has no hope and that’s why people are moving out. Instead of people moving into such a great city, many are leaving. During mayor Bill de Blasio’s term, many repeat criminals were released from jail and people weren’t punished for their crimes which is why the crime rate is so high. It seems that the new mayor wants to fight gun violence and stop crime in his city. He has shown full support to the NYPD when many were against them. As a retired PO, I feel as though he knows exactly what needs to be done to bring the city back to its feet.
