Summary

“The Vampire Diaries” is my ultimate favorite show. It came out in 2009 and it is a supernatural teen drama television series. Stefan is one of the brothers. He has two sides to him which are evil and good. The vampires can turn their humanity on and off. When they have their humanity on, they are very connected to the real world. They are kind, loving, and considerate, Stefan tries to stay alive from blood bags so he doesn't have to hurt innocent people. He also is always protecting his loved ones and fighting for them. However, when his humanity is off, he is very evil. He has no emotions or cares for anything or anyone. He will kill anyone in his way and not have one regret. It is very interesting to see these two sides of the vampires because it’s like a whole new character coming into the show. Lord Ruthven is known as a Lord but no one knew his original identity. No one knew Stefan’s identity either. He lied about his age and tried to start a new life. He was a “teenager” in school but actually one hundred and seventy-one years old. Lord Ruthven killed many people, as did Stefan. Lord Ruthven was very wicked. As stated in “The Vampyre”, “his character was dreadfully vicious, for that the possession of irresistible powers of seduction, rendered his licentious habits more dangerous to society.” He also killed his wife. However, Stefan would never do anything to hurt Elena, which was the woman he was so deeply in love with. Even when his humanity was off, he never hurt her. In fact, she was his soft spot and she tried to get his humanity back by attempting to hurt herself by falling off of a high stair to see if he would save her. She knew he would even though he was evil at the time, and he did.

Nice comparison! I haven’t watched The Vampire Diaries, but it sounds like when Stefan’s humanity is “on” he is genuinely good. However, when Ruthven is acting “good” he is actually deceiving people. Does this seem accurate to you?

Yes, I agree with you! The only similarity I think the two have is their evil side, which would be Stefan with his humanity off and Ruthven as himself.
