In essay #3 I plan to be writing about Twilight the movie. I see a connection in the way they changed WareWolfs and Vampires from looking scary and being creatures you don’t want to be around to more sexual and enticing beings through time. I think the reason is because as the years go by society is losing its tolerance for it and and would rather see something more appealing to the eye. Society now wants more handsome and beautiful rather than scary and creepy.

In essay #3, I would like to write about the hit TV series Supernatural. The show is based around two brothers Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester and Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester who are “Hunters” of the paranormal and strange and live under the radar of the government. They drive around the country taking on cases/jobs of hunting down and eliminating any and mostly all paranormal threats. The series includes almost any/all “monsters” you can think of, vampires, werewolves, angels, demons, ghost, shape shifters, gods of all different religions and A LOT more. All the gothic metaphors used in the series is pretty much all the ones we covered in class so I am not to sure on which I will use yet. There is hauntings/haunted houses, undead, paranoia/madness, live burial etc. The social issue that I see clearly but I can be wrong is Fear, fear of the unknown and unexplained.

Blog Post #9: Death Note

The text that I will be writing on for Essay 3 is based on a manga/graphic novel. It is called “Death Note” by Ohba Tsugumi. The title itself is pretty much self-explanatory. It is mostly about a notebook and whose name is written onto it, he/she will die. It somehow landed into the human world by a Shinigami (Death God) due to his reasoning, which is boredom. One day, a straight A “Mr. Perfect” student named Yagami Light saw the death notebook landed out of nowhere and picked it up. Strange current of events starts to unfold and change Light’s life.  The Gothic metaphor I will be using is madness/insanity. In “Death Note”, the social issue is Light develops a prolonging obsession madness of bringing justice to those who deserve to die, to be rid from society. He wants to be a God-like figure to those who do wrong and injustice to create a world with no evil. Those who did wrong and/or oppose of him, they will be brought to justice and perish to their execution. Yet, I believe without evil in the society we live in presently, there will be no good. It’s suppose to be at its balance and equality.

For essay three I would like to use the tv series called Supernatural. This series is about about two brothers who become “hunters” after their mother has died from supernatural force and their dad raised them to be soldiers. Throughout the series the brothers go on road trips hunting demons and monsters that range from vampires to werewolves. Two social issues that I found watching this show are class, and national fear.

1. Identify and briefly describe the text you will be writing on for Essay 3

My text For essay 3 is called Monster by Naoki Urasawa. Monster is a manga and anime. The story/anime is set when the Berlin wall fell in Germany. This was the time when Hitler was conducting experiments on children. The experiment was to create madness in children to make them serial killers. One of the children escape and tell the traumatic experience to her younger brother. The younger brother who is named Johan mentally absorb the story as his own and becomes a serial killer at a very young age. Since this the intended result of the experiment, Johan’s existences was erased. All traces of his existences was destroyed by the people behind the experiment.

2. Indicate the Gothic metaphor you will be writing about in that text

Madness

3. Explain the social issue you think might be represented by this Gothic metaphor

Blog Post#9 Fullmetal Alchemist

The text that i will be using for essay number 3 will be Fullmetal Alchemist by Hiromu Arakawa. The story tells about two bothers who lost their mom at a young age. The lost of their mom was so sad for them that they try to bring her back using Alchemy. Alchemy is one of the most advanced scientific techniques in the story. Using Human Transmutation… a forbidden art in which one attempts to create or modify a human being. But it failed and the older brother Edward Elric looses his left leg while the younger Alphonse Elric looses his entire body. His soul was attached to a suit of armor by his older brother Edward who sacrifice his right arm to attached Alphonse’s soul into the armor. From that incident both brothers decide to bring their bodies back to normal by searching for the Philosopher Stone (a powerful object which would allow them to recover their bodies)  My gothic issue is going to be Monsters, because in the story there’s many created creatures using Alchemy, who were created for evil and others as experiments that became a mistake.

I am going to write my essay about Frankenstien by Mary Shelly.

Victor, the main character found a way to bring a dead corpse back to life using electrical currents. He created a monster, Frankenstien who is physically crippled and horrific looking. To the public the monster is a beast, something that is to be killed. Due to that, the public wants to kill him without giving him a chance to speak up. In our society, people are judged based on their physical appearance  We often prejudge strangers whom we never had a conversation with and form and decided whether or not they are good people. Therefore, we should be friendly to people who we should fear, love, hate or associate with all based on the way they look.

i think for essay #3 i will be using the TV series The Walking Dead. The series follows a group of survivors in a world overcome by a zombie Apocalypse. zombies and other groups of survirors fighting each other for dominance and peace is the metaphor in the series that represents the struggles the world is going through right now with superpower countries at the brink of another possible world war that can b as devastating as a zombie Apolypse for the middle and lower class citizens.

Blog POST #9

The text that i will be using for essay number 3 is the chapter of Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The gothic metaphor that i will be talking about is “monster”, because the fact that not only Hyde is a deformity of Jekyll and a hideous monster, Jekyll himself is a monster for continuously using his concoction, fiendishly knowing its consequences. Thus a murder happened.

Blog post 9!

My Essay will be on a T.V series called The Walking Dead, in which my Gothic theme will be the undead or zombies. It tells the story of a small group of survivors living in the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse, as the survivors search for a safe haven away from the shuffling hordes of predatory “walkers” or “biters” (as the zombies are referred to in the show), who devour any living thing they catch, and whose bite is infectious to humans.  I will be talking about the governor, Philip Blake, who ‘s sinister motives and many dark secrets, such as keeping his zombified daughter, Penny, locked in a cage, collecting heads of walkers displayed in fish tanks for his own amusement, and ordering his men to ambush and kill National Guardsmen and steal their supplies.  I will be comparing the governor, Philip Blake’s actions and the zombies to our society where the governor, and the zombies as his followers, tries to take advantage and control its citizens.
