Remember to have the portfolio ready to submit at the beginning of class so you don’t lose points for being late!

 


For Thursday, 5/10:

  • Bring two copies of your complete draft (including your cover letter and works cited page). To format your cover letter, review the first sample cover letter under “course materials

For Tuesday, 5/8:

  • Complete your outline

For Thursday, 5/3:

  • Catch up on any work you have not yet completed. No additional homework!

For Tuesday, 5/1:

  • Find at least one article from the library or library database that might help you find out what other solutions people have proposed or tried. Read it, annotate it, and bring it to class on Tuesday.

For Thursday, 4/26:

  • Write out your detailed solution in 1-3 sentences.

For Tuesday, 4/24:

Find at least one article from the library/database that can help you establish that your problem is, in fact, a problem. Read it and bring it to class.


For Thursday, 4/19:

  • Read part of the Equal Justice Initiative Report, Lynching in America: Confronting the Legacy of Racial Terror. I recommend that you skim the full report, but the assignment is to read the following sections:
    • “Racially-biased Criminal Justice and Mass Criminalization” (including “Lynching and Racial Terror Profoundly Compromised the Criminal Justice System” and “Lynching’s Legacy: Capital Punishment in America”)

For Tuesday, 3/27:

  • Complete your annotated bibliography notes (for at least 2 articles/books/book chapters)
    • For the annotated bibliography, write out what each source is about and how you might use it in your essay
  • Complete your outline

For Thursday, 3/22:

  • Complete the Body Paragraph Worksheet (Body Paragraph Worksheet Eng 1101)
  • Complete the Researching your Topic Worksheet and bring in at least 2 articles that you might use for your essay (you don’t have to read them first)

 For Tuesday, 3/20:

  • Read, annotate, and bring to class “Is Gentrification a Human Rights Violation?” (posted under Course Materials).
  • Write out a sentence framing the issue in which you clearly state which of Fullilove’s arguments you will be focusing on in your essay.
  • Write out a tentative thesis statement in which you state your opinion on Fullilove’s argument. Remember, you may confirm (agree with a difference), challenge (disagree with reasons), or change (both agree and disagree with specific elements of her argument).

On Tuesday, 3/6 meet at the entrance to the library (4th floor Atrium building) at 11:30 am. Don’t be late and don’t go to our regular classroom in Voorhees!!

Essay 1 Final Draft due Tuesday, 3/6 by 11:59 pm!  To submit your essay, upload your essay to Blackboard and be sure to save it in one of the approved file formats (preferably .docx). Don’t wait until the last minute!

Portfolio #1 is due on Tuesday, March 6th in class. Bring the following items, clearly labeled and placed in order in your pocket folder:

Essay 1 rough draft due Thursday, 3/1!

  • Bring TWO copies of a complete TYPED rough draft to class for a peer review workshop (don’t forget to include a Works Cited page, if you are using a source that needs to be credited).

The final draft will be due on Tuesday, March 6th by 11:59 pm via Blackboard.


The due dates for Essay 1 are changing!

  • The rough draft will be due in class on Thursday, 3/1.
  • The final draft and portfolio 1 will be due on Tuesday, 3/6.
