Reflective Photo Journal #4

I received a couple of Four Keys cards! I was pleasantly surprised with these cards and I’m extremely proud of myself. My first day working a Heart of House shift was the day after inventory was taken. Having never done HOH before, I assumed it was the normal workload and just kept on working. However, it turns out the number of pallets we received was more than twice the number we normally expect. Towards the end of the shift, the woman I was working with, Barbara, pulled me to the side and commented on how hard I was working and mentioned that she doesn’t see that kind of work ethic too often. She later surprised me with a four keys card and thanked me again for my diligent work.

A few days later, I received another four keys card for consistently working hard. I was, again, extremely grateful for this recognition. Although I consider myself an already hard worker, being recognized for my work and being given positive feedback really pushes me to work even harder for my team. I love how Disney encourages cast members to give out these cards to fellow cast members as a way to show appreciation towards one another. Receiving these cards has really boosted my self-esteem and I’ve become more confident in my work!

I’ve also been trying to take advantage of the events Disney has to offer CPs. I recently attended a speed networking event where CPs can go to meet and ask questions to leaders of various departments for 8 minutes each. Although I wasn’t able to get to all of them, I met many leaders whose journeys were very different from one another. I got in contact with a few leaders after the session was over and have a couple of meetings in place. I plan to ask them more questions and get some advice from them about a possible future here. I’ve been really trying to push myself to join these events and network more. Since starting the Disney College Program, I’ve become more comfortable speaking with people in general which is a necessary skill leaders need to have. Not only will leaders be speaking to employees on a daily basis but they will also be put into situations with strangers (guests) and they will need to be able to converse in a mannerable but friendly way. It’s still something I’m working on but am steadily improving upon. I hope I can continue to learn more from these events and the many Disney leaders I will encounter.
