Victor is an operations manager of a technical facilities team for Walt Disney World Resort. Every three months he holds a meeting with his team which includes of technical specialist, managers and budget and finance specialist. In this meeting these three groups have different personalities when in the meeting. Like the budget and finance specialist does not participate in the meeting unless if there are asked a question directly. The management staff tries to dominate the meeting by talking all the time; however, they start saying jokes and get side tracked from the topic at hand. Lastly the technical specialist always seem frustrated like they don’t want be there. It bothers Victor because he is so orderly and wants to resolve this problem amongst his team. He is a directive person and does not engage into small talk with co-workers is all about work.

There are many problems from both sides of the field but because Victor is the one who has to resolve the problem he has to fix problems with his leadership ways. Everyone has their different personalities and you must cater to everyone’s needs to make them feel comfortable in their own certain way. Victor as a leader is too direct and only focuses on work which probably makes the other workers feel uncomfortable. Leaders need to be consciences of his co-workers because they all have different way of acting.

According to the Transactional Analysis Theory, Victor as a leader plays the role of a controlling parent. Being in the ego state of a controlling parent he is constructive and organizing.  For the constructive state, Victor makes sure that he has receives input from all of the team members.  As for organization, he makes sure that he has an agenda for every meeting and always addresses problems when they first arise.  With these attributes, it is clear to see that he is a controlling parent.

Victor’s relationship with the budget and finance specialist is a controlling parent to a free child.  Reason being, that only when the specialist is asked a direct question does he partake in the meeting.  As the controlling parent, Victor tries to engage everyone into the meeting, but for the budget and finance specialist, is being stubborn and wants to be the free child and only respond when being spoken to.

Now with the relationship between Victor and the management staff is also controlling parent to free child, because the management team not only takes over the whole meeting but they also disregard Victor by making most of the jokes throughout the meeting. Plus, they tend to get sidetracked from the agenda that Victor has out lined.  With the management staffs complete disregard of Victors organized plans, it disrupts the whole point of the meetings.

Lastly, the relationship between Victor and the technical personnel is a parent to child ego state. The technical personnel always have an attitude of not wanting to be in the meeting. Showing no care towards the conversation at hand, with many regret of being at the meeting making it very difficult for Victor to have the cohesive meeting he wants. However, he brought it upon himself for letting it continue for as long as it did.

Victor being a leader he has to be the one make the changes and show his team that he is going to be the one running the meeting unlike letting the management talking throughout the whole meeting. He needs to get everyone involved with the decision making. Also showing them that they are equal and important to the conversation. Everyone has a valid point that should be addressed and used no matter how use less it could be but it shows that you care about what others think.
