Journal #6

Since my last post, the home sickness has subsided.

Last week, my girlfriend visited from home and we had a fantastic time. It was great to finally be a guest at a resort and receive the treatment I provide for people 40 hours a week. I honestly can say that this is the most self satisfying job on the planet. I make magical moments multiple times daily, and am constantly being praised for it.

Yesterday, my manager and I had a moment. After being in the cooler for 5 hours and stocking beverages non-stop, we spoke. As I was putting the last bottle of orange juice up for the night, he walked in and watched. He then told me, “Matthew, you are a very hard worker.” That was all I needed to hear, finally someone other than a guest noticed the amount of passion and effort I put into my job. No matter if its mopping the floors, serving food or stocking a cooler, I put my all and make sure to represent myself as much as possible.

So far I have gotten 4 fanatic cards and they are the greatest. They really boost moral and self confidence levels in the work place. It’s definitely nice to receive a “thanks”, but sometimes I feel like it would be said much better in person than on paper.

    Dear Matthew,

I feel the same way about receiving recognition. I also have 4 fanatic cards but I have yet to hear any verbal recognition. I work really hard to always put my best foot forward and to go above and beyond and although the fanatic cards are great I really would to hear one of my leaders actual input and a discussion of some sort. There are so many cast members that work at my location that it is easy to sometimes feel unnoticed.
