For me, Easter is usually pretty uneventful, but Easter at Fort Wilderness this past Sunday was WONDERFUL. The “magical moments” were aplenty and infectious. I loved seeing the kids smile when we gave them Easter treats and balloons. There were a few moments that I wanted to share.
One of the highlights was getting some time away from the desk to put together a care package for a family that I had checked in earlier that week. I would periodically check their reservation to see how they were doing as well as ask the manager who assisted me with the family, the Wilsons, if he had seen or spoken to them. They were one of those memorable families.
In a conversation with Mr.Wilson, I found out he was a recent cancer survivor, and had brought his wife and triplets to Disney to celebrate. They had encounter issues that last time they stayed with us when they tried to park their RV in to one of our site, and incurred $1000 in damages. They gave us another try after speaking with a back office representative, and were assured the site they would be assigned to site that would be big enough and pose no problem. However, when they arrived the evening of their check-in, sites were limited (they were unfortunately not pre-assigned), and what they received was yet again too small. They were understandably upset, and annoyed. We gave them a night back, put them up in a cabin, and the following day, a manager saw to it that they had first pick of an appropriate site. After a manager assisted me with putting the care package together, it was delivered to the family via luggage/guest assist, and heard that the daughters were so excited to get the gift. I wish I was there to see their reaction, but were glad we could send them off Disney style!
A coworker had checked in a family with daughters that drove down from NY without making a reservation at the hotel and without buying tickets. Their total came out to almost a thousand for two nights, which they could barely afford. It was their first time to Disney, so they went on to purchase park hopper tickets, and then one of his daughters asked to get two-day park hoppers, but the father just could not afford it. A manager who overheard gave the family another set of park hoppers, a night back so that the parents can spend the money on the girls, and also fast passes! It is moments like these that Disney outdoes themselves.
