In food and beverage, at Caribbean Beach Resort, we don’t really get a chance to shadow our managers, because we are very busy very often. The only opportunity we have to see the daily tasks of a manager is during pre-shift. At our pre-shift meetings, we usually talk about all aspects of our company and what we can do to better it. We also have tasting during these pre-shifts. Our managers always tell us that we need to know what everything that we serve taste like so we could explain to our guests. Other than pre-shifts, that’s about the closest we get to “shadowing” a manager.
I guess since we are always working its a head start to putting your foot in the door, just like the article stated. I have been asked to work many times on my days off by my manager, and I have been extended a lot as well, and have never said no to my manager. hopefully this makes him see that I am a valuable employee. I have also spoken to my manager about possible management experience training that he said he will help me out with. i told him I do want to be a food and beverage manager at some point in my life, and it would be a great deal if i could follow him around some days, help with managerial tasks and other possible things. He told he he would definitely set something up for me because he sees that i am seriously passionate about business.
