I have been really busy ever since the first day I stepped into the Disney World. I never thought it would be this intense. I am currently working in Quick Food Service in Animal Kingdom . I will be working in different locations such as Ice Cream carts , Harambe ( Africa) , Camp Minnie Mickey ( Funnel cakes , Soft Serve ice cream , Hot Dogs) . I am very grateful at the fact that in city tech we took Food and Bev. 102 as a class. Being part of the Outdoor Food service crew you need to know everything about the temperatures of food , the HACCP program in a kitchen , all the stuff that we learned for the Serve Safe.
Right now in training I feel really good because I know all the stuff regarding to the foods, but I have a really big problem : THE MONEY. I have never worked handling money and I get so nervous just thinking I will be under or over my count of money. Two days ago I was given my account number to sign into the cash register and start attending costumers. That same day I was given the number I was put on the cash register and it was the worst 7 hours of my life. Every Time a costumer will come up to me and order something I would be super cautious of what I was doing, at the end my cash register was under one dollar and my trainer said that was OKAY .
I will have my assesment on friday and it will be on so much information . The quick food service world has so much stuff to deal with that my brain is seriously going insane. I come home exhausted from standing for 8 hours and dealing with costumers all day long and worrying about the money count.
I am just looking forward to focus on actually doing my school work which I will have to put a alarm to remind me to log into open lab and post weekly and make sure I am looking at what my former school mates are up to in Disney and how things are going for them too. This journey has just began and I am ready get myself back in track .
Make sure to send a message to your Intro to F&B professor, I am sure he or she would be thrilled to learn that they prepared you for your internship. They will find it rewarding to hear from a student who is using the information they taught in a beneficial way.
Make the new experience of working with money a positive one by taking your time and understanding the chances you have for making a mistake. If you are aware of your weaknesses then you can focus on them and improve. Try the same approach for your assessment. Stay focused on what you know and pay special attention to what you are unfamiliar with.
I think you are making a wise decision to schedule your time on the OpenLab. This is an important part of your internship and it is easy to fall behind when you have so many other commitments. Think of time on the OpenLab as a time to record what you have learned so that your internship will be even more valuable. It is also a great way to stay in touch with your classmates even if you do not get to see them on a regular basis.
