Give Kids a Smile – Greater NY Dental Meeting at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center of New York

My team and I had the chance to volunteer at the Greater NY Dental Meeting for Give Kids a Smile. This was such an awesome and joyful experience. We were in charge of the nutrition station, therefore, we decided to created poster boards to teach the kids bout what foods are good and bad for your oral health. The props allowed us to have an interaction with the children by having them stick the foods on the appropriate “good” or “bad” board. The kids also loved our short song that we created and sang when each new group would stop by our station!

Head Start- Fluoride Varnish Program

As depicted in the photographs, I was given the opportunity to do an amazing service for the Family Head Start Program in Glenwood, Brooklyn. The service was for children from low-income families ranging from ages 3-5. It was my job to give oral screenings, look for any significant findings or early childhood caries, explain the importance of oral hygiene, discuss brushing habits and apply fluoride varnish to each child. We would then document our findings and give a written report for the child to bring home to their guardian. This program really brought a smile to my face, knowing that we all helped such a large community of children.
