The Society of Illustrators located in midtown east Manhattan started as a private club where a group of artists held exhibitions and promoted the art in 1921. Nowadays is a place where professional illustrators, painters, students and all kind of people interested in art can reunited to see different artworks of famous artist such as Norman Rockwell, Howard Pyle, and Ernst Fuchs.

The tour started at the Big O exhibition which is a collection of original art that celebrates the fine art of children’s books illustration. The walls all around this exhibition shows different techniques and illustrations of children’s books. The society also focuses in contributions for the community teaching sketch classes and lectures, as well as scholarships to outstanding students.

Moreover on the tour, we went to the second floor which is the Mocca (Museum of comic and cartoon art) where shows different comics sketches along with the final color result. At the end of the tour we went to the hall of fame dining room which is a small but amazing bar where people reunites Tuesdays and Thursdays to listen to music, talk about art, work in figure drawings, or just have a meal surrounded by an artistic and calm environment.

SWISSTED POSTER

LCD SOUNDSYSTEM SWISSTED POSTER

LCD SOUNDSYSTEM SWISSTED POSTER

This project was for my ARTH 3311 class and the purpose was to create a swissted style poster for my favorite band, singer, or artist. Swissted is a project by a graphic designer named Mike Joyce, who is the owner of the firm Stereotype Design in NYC. Joyce’s influences are the International Typographic Style and the used of Modernism with a touch of punk rock.

I chose LCD SOUNDSYSTEM a dance-punk, electro, rock band and my idea was to use stripes of different bright colors and positions in the poster to highlight the swiss style which is characterized for the use of typography and structured compositions and shapes.
