CUNY Institute for Software Design & Development (CISDD) Internship Opportunities

CISDD is a CUNY-wide consortium that promotes CUNY’s participation in New York City’s software industry and advances the growth of the software industry and the high technology job sector in the New York City area. CISDD also provides CUNY students with opportunities to gain work experience at New York City governmental agencies through the following internship programs the 2011-2012 academic year: CISDD Internships are considered on-campus positions.

CUNY/HRA Internship Program

In partnership with the NYC Human Resource Administration (HRA), CISDD offers an exciting internship program for CUNY undergraduate and graduate students. The program currently consists of 80+ student interns and allows students to receive practical hands-on training and experience while assisting HRA in achieving their long-term technical objectives. Students work in a variety of HRA locations, applying their technical and professional skills in the areas of consulting, network administration, programming and databases, etc.

The Citywide Information Technology Internship (CITY) Program

CISDD and the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DOITT) sponsor the Citywide Information Technology Internship (CITY) program, which is designed to provide City agencies with high quality interns from the CUNY schools, and in turn provide the students with valuable work experience. The program currently consists of over 100 student interns. Students work in a variety of locations, applying their technical and professional skills in the areas of consulting, network administration, programming, databases, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), public administration and urban planning.

The DIIT-CUNY Technical Support Program / DOE Internship Program

The CUNY Institute for Software Design and Development (CISDD) has hired 300+ paid interns for the 2010-2011 academic year. Positions entail providing tech support to the New York City Department of Education public school system across the 5 Boroughs.

Qualifications for a CISDD internship:

Current CUNY registered undergraduate and graduate students.

Majoring in computer areas (Computer Science, Information Systems, etc) or individuals majoring in other fields with strong computer skills.

Taken at least 2 semesters of Computer Science related courses including Programming, Network, or Database System Management, etc or have significant work experience in an IT related position.

Available to work 19 or 28 hours per week for most of the academic year and possibly full-time over the summer.

Authorized to work under INS laws for on-campus jobs.
Knowledge or experience in applications programming and maintenance, network administration, database design and administration and project management preferred.

Last fiscal year we employed over 500 CUNY students, and even in down economy, many students continue to get hired by their respective agencies as consultants or full-time staff. Furthermore, all hopefully gain experience and skills that will help them land a job upon graduation.
